As e cigarettes are still relatively new, there are a number of misconceptions that have arisen surrounding their use, yet many of these assumptions are easily refuted once you scratch beneath the surface. A large amount of poor press stems from those who are ill-informed and are not well versed in how the electronic cigarette functions. We’re going to address some of the most common misconceptions and put your mind at ease, leaving you to enjoy your vaping worry-free.

A Gateway to Smoking
E cigarettes have been identified as a gateway to smoking by many. However, a recent study in the UK showed that less than 1% of non-smokers who vape would consider actually smoking tobacco. It’s far more likely that cigarette smokers will switch to vaping due to the numerous benefits it offers.

Encouraging Children to Smoke
This is another misconception that’s sprung up from the anti-electronic cigarette movement, and it seems to indicate that e cigarette companies are targeting children or encouraging them to vape. This couldn’t be further from the truth, and as the premise of this argument seems to rely solely on the fact that there are so many exciting flavoured e liquids on offer, it’s a rather flimsy accusation.

The Industry Is Unregulated
Although vaping in public places and other such aspects may not be regulated, there are safety regulations and chemical hazard regulations that have been put in place for the production of these devices. Trading standards have to be adhered to, and many UK companies are regulated by the ECITA (Electronic Cigarette Industry Trade Association) to ensure they meet requirements.

Research Has Been Minimal
This is another misconception that can easily be debunked. Research into e cigs has been extensive, and whilst a few years back there may have been little information available, the popularity of these devices has changed this. Dozens of studies have been carried out, and scientists have dedicated an enormous amount of time to evaluating the effects of these devices.

Malfunctions Can Harm You
We’ve all heard the story about the person who ended up in hospital after their electronic cigarette exploded, but what many people don’t realise is that malfunctions are usually due to misuse. The UK Fire Service has repeatedly highlighted the fact that using the incorrect charger can cause a problem. Many vapers seem to think that a phone charger delivers the same result, when in fact it can be too powerful.

Over time, these misconceptions will disappear as an increasing number of people become aware of the real facts about the e cigarette.
