Flavour fatigue, or “vaper's tongue”, is a condition that describes the moment when your e liquid suddenly loses its delicious favour. This can happen to new vapers, but it’s far more likely to occur in those that have been vaping for a little while, and it’s actually not caused by your tongue but by your olfactory senses at the top of your nasal passage.

Causes of Fatigue

There are numerous causes of this type of fatigue, and just some of them include giving up smoking tobacco cigarettes, mild dehydration, a cold or allergies or simply using the same flavour repeatedly. It can also be caused by not cleaning out your e cig cartridges, so it’s important that you always ensure that your flavours are never compromised by liquid build-up.

Fixing the Problem

As there are so many possible causes for this issue, there are a few different avenues that you can explore in an a attempt to regain the tantalising taste experience you enjoyed when vaping previously. Firstly, you can change your e cig cartridges and make sure that whatever flavoured e liquid you choose is unaffected by a previous juice. Once you have done this, it’s a good idea to shock your senses and opt for a mint, menthol or citrus flavour that will cleanse your pallet and make your taste buds tingle.

Reawaken Your Olfactory Senses

Brushing your teeth or tongue may also help restore your taste buds, and this can also remove any residue that may have built up on your tongue. This might just bring the flavour back, or you may need to rinse out your mouth with a strong mouthwash. A trick that’s often used by wine tasters and perfume experts is to take a whiff of coffee grounds, as coffee interacts positively with the chemicals in your olfactory senses and causes a reset.

Rehydrate and Switch Flavours

One of the most common causes of flavour fatigue is dehydration, and if you have recently quit smoking tobacco cigarettes, this can be a major factor. Always hydrate and ensure that you drink enough water on a daily basis. Additionally, if you’ve been sticking to one flavour of e liquid since you started vaping, your taste buds may simply have become a little too accustomed to it. Switching flavours is always advisable, and with so many available options, there’s no reason not to try out new sensations.

Vaper's tongue doesn’t last long and is very common. If you employ a few of these tips, you’ll soon be on your way back to once again enjoying a delicious vaping experience.
